Always start thinking about colors when the rug is selected. Let us say your living room is 14 feet wide and 20 feet long, most likely you will have a rug at least 8 feet by 10 feet (It is recommended to use a larger size rug). However, your rug is still the largest chunk of color that will interact with everything else in the room, so your paint colors can easily be drawn from the rug pattern. It always works better this way.
Find your focal point; then begin arranging your furnishings in a manner that will allow the space to be lived in comfortably while traffic moves freely about the room. This is typically a fireplace, a great view or some area of the room that will hold the most used items like the TV.
When buying living room furniture, make sure that the color of the walls match the color of the furniture or at least have matching shades with the furniture. Check for a warranty on the furniture, especially expensive teakwood tables and leather sofas. To get the best rate, it is always better to check out a clearance sale. Lighting is another important point of enhancing the look of your living room furniture. The living room has to have proper lighting to give a soothing feeling.
